The show, "Looking Out for Number #1", is a symbolic exploration of the number one. Having transcended it's function as a single unit, the number one has become an expression summing up everything that we consider to be the best. It is where things begin, or end; no matter who or what they are. We have taken this number and personalized it, making it an image that facilitates and justifies almost any action. Our self perception and desire to be No#1 is a belief that excuses us from routines and responsibilities.
In "Looking out for #1", Scratch customizes and embellishes a selection of stylized No#1 cut outs. Making each number a two dimensional representation of who we think we are, and who we would like to be. The artist creates diverse impressions of our personal aspirations, visualizing them in shiny bold colours and textures.
